The Story
Return to Kanto in a remake of Pokémon Yellow built for everyone: you play a new young trainer from Pallet Town whose partner is a special Pikachu or Eevee that rides on your shoulder, wears outfits, and learns powerful exclusive moves.
Team Rocket is up to its old schemes — harassing trainers, stealing Pokémon, and occupying Silph Co. in Saffron City — with the boss Giovanni waiting as the final Gym Leader. The story beats follow the 1998 classic closely, ending at the Indigo Plateau.
The big twist is the catching: wild Pokémon appear visibly in the overworld and are caught with motion-controlled throws, Pokémon GO-style — there are no wild battles. Experience comes from catching, and catch combos boost shiny odds and spawn rare Pokémon.
It's the most relaxed mainline journey: co-op lets a second player drop in anytime, candies from Professor Oak power up your team quickly, and your partner Pokémon is strong enough to carry you through most of the game.
Good to Know
- Catch everything, repeatedly: catching is your main source of experience, and catch combos of the same species raise shiny odds dramatically.
- Your partner Pikachu/Eevee is overpowered on purpose — its exclusive moves give it coverage against its own counters. Lean on it.
- Send duplicates to Professor Oak for candies, then feed candies to boost your team's stats — this replaces EV training and is very generous.
- Look for the 'glowing' overworld spawns — larger or smaller than usual Pokémon have better stats.
- Save Master Balls and Ultra Balls for the roaming legendary birds and Mewtwo in Cerulean Cave.
After the Credits
- Master Trainers: 153 trainers across Kanto, each a specialist of a single species — beat them all with the same species to earn their titles.
- Cerulean Cave & Mewtwo: the ultimate postgame catch, plus rematches against powered-up Gym Leaders and your rival.
- Complete the Pokédex (153) and take the Judge function challenge; shiny hunting with max catch combos and lures is the endgame loop.
